And now St. Louis is cursed

The St. Louis Blues have long been one of the most under achieving franchises in the NHL. Their playoff ineptitude was the stuff of legend for many years, until in 2019, they had a breakthrough. They beat the Boston Bruins for a cathartic championship for a city that has been loyal for so long, even in the face of relentless heartbreak.

But now, the Blues are back to where they had always been. A franchise where shit like this happens.

Making the sale

We are getting down to the wire on the season. The Stanley Cup Playoff starts in less than a month, so naturally, any fan of a team with a shot wants to secure their tickets and get to the arena. Playoff games sell out, it should be an easy sale. Unless you are hanging on by a fingernail, like the Blues, who are 2 points ahead of the Flames (who have two games in hand) a 3 ahead of the Canucks (who have a game in hand).

Selling playoff tickets isn't hard, but the Blues have to sell themselves as a playoff team.

Thanks to a strong record since the 4 Nations Face-Off break in February, the Blues have climbed back into the playoff picture as the 2024-25 regular season enters its final stretch.

If the Blues clinch a spot in the playoffs, their opponent and a complete first-round schedule will be available after the completion of the regular season.

"If" is sure doing some work here. It's important to talk about the potential the team has demonstrated, and the hope the teams late run has given, because one way or another, you are trying to get your fans to work with Ticketmaster. It had better be worth it.

Let's pretend I know what I was talking about

Back in October, I had some thoughts:

The league seems to be very Eastern Conference heavy going into the year, and picking a winner there will be tricky. I'm going to lean into the Florida Panthers, who made a leap last year, and then spent the entire summer firming up their roster. They are going to be good again in 2022, and if my hunch that the Lightning are going to be flat is correct, they should have an inside track on the Atlantic. I don't trust the 'Canes, Rangers or Maple Leafs, so I guess the Panthers are where it's at for me.

Pretty good, right? I mean, I did say the Panthers were going to win it all in 6, which they can't do, now down 3-1. That's clearly the biggest flaw in this post.

Well, even in this paragraph, I don't mention the Bruins at all in a post about Eastern Conference contenders. That's not great. They had a pretty decent year. I did pick playoff teams for all the rest though, so I'll take points there!

Oh, and I didn't include comments about the Western Conference. I highlighted, let's see, the Wild and the Blues. Wow. But I did say the Oilers were going to be good! Of course, I did also suggest that the champion from the Western Conference would be the Calgary Flames.

Not my finest hour. It's fine, I've only been doing this for like 10 years.

Tweet of the Moment

The last day before the Blue Check potentially went away on Twitter, making this a fairly significant time to be posting on the social media platform. Better not do something particularly stupid, especially something that distracts away from your brands' primary industry! Or potentially makes your employees sound dumb! I do admit the pronunciation of "FAU"

Everybody freeze!
