Tweet of the Moment
Alas, the great migration away from X has begun in droves in the hockey writ community. I was an early departure, when Tweetdeck was shuttered. The utility was greatly reduced, and now many fans, at least the type that may end up here have moved on and are probably continuing to find my posts on Mastadon. Yeah, Mastadon, if that tells you what I think of Twitter's utility nowadays. But now, facing practical and political headwinds, it's to the point that the teams are establishing a social media presence on other services. I might start putting posts up on Blue Sky, since that seems to be where the action is. Wait, the teams are all going to Threads? Good luck embedding a Thread. Anyways, here is some Monty Magic, which sounds like a restraining order waiting to happen.BRING ON THE MONTY MAGIC 🪄 pic.twitter.com/QFkiXsb6ry

All eyes on Dylan Larkin, who has been a thorn in Toronto's side throughout his career. WATCH as he looks from side to side! MARVEL as he passes a couple of times! GASP as he skates a wide circle through center ice! Oh, watch him during the game. I get it now.Eyes on D-Boss.@sheetz x #LGRW pic.twitter.com/bBKxs7ZiM0

The NHL season starts in a little more than a week, and teams are right sizing their roster. This may end up being the final Tweet of the Moment before the season begins. The Stars project to be one of the best teams in the league (again) and the real intrigue is that this high octane team still has young Lian Bichsel among the defensive ranks. OK intrigue may have been too strong a word.

When I started college, I spent the lonelier times on my PC, playing NHL '02, tearing through entire seasons in a couple of days. Meanwhile, my freshman roomate was very into Marilyn Manson, and as a result, whenever I think of that time of my life, I think of Evgeni Nabokov, but sing his name to the tune of "The Beautiful People" And that is my contribution to NHL Goalie WeekHappy #NHLGoalieWeek!!! 🎉 pic.twitter.com/17onG5udv1

It's the offseason, which means it's the time of year that the marketing team needs to work the hardest. It's summer, people aren't really thinking about indoor sports, and this year there are the Olympics to consider. Let's give a little appreciation to the Canucks marketing team, who probably have a fairly easy job, selling hockey tickets in Vancouver, going through their toughest times of year.

The Devils acquired Jacob Markstrom for the equivalent of a wet fart, and after missing out on the playoffs in no small part because they didn't really have much in net to begin with. This was part of a duo of goalie trades that were made in the last couple of days, with Darcy Kuemper shipped to Los Angeles for Pierre-Luc Dubois. Do you remember when the offseason didn't happen while the season was still going?Us realizing we have to wait 3 months to see Marky in Black and Red. pic.twitter.com/pI2GFWlwcF

Vincent Trocheck has come alive during this post eason. This was goal number 8, leading the Rangers in the postseason. Like it or not, it's good for the NHL teams ot be competitive in the Original 6 markets, and having some star power with the Rangers in the post-Henrik Lundqvist era is essential. Is Vincent Trocheck the future? Maybe, but we are going to have to do better than "Troch" for a nickname. Of course, Trocheck is on the wrong side of 30 and on his third stop. Let's just accept that he's probably a good player having his best moments right now and enjoy the ride.POWER PLAY TROCH. pic.twitter.com/uhWmnfUAiK

Brick by Brick because his name is Woll. Too bad there isn't a song about putting bricks in a wall by a band that is popular with some Canadians. I'm sure using it would require Money. The Leafs could probably stand to keep some around to make sure their big 4 stick around too. Hockey, of course, is lagging behind the rest of the sports world for inclusion of all races and communities, and if any market has demonstrated in the last several years that the bridge between cultures needs to be mended, it's Minnesota. Hopefully this is a tool to start building all the relationships that need building, recognizing Black youth hockey players in the Twin Cities areas, including a kid who might be the heir to the Costco Store Brand empireThank you to Alexander Kirkland for being our Black History Celebration Night flag bearer on Saturday presented by @BMO_US! #mnwild pic.twitter.com/4v4eaF57id

There was always some criticism of bloggers initially for speaking without access on sports and the culture, so eventually, some bloggers became more assertive and staked out a place in the media, started getting access and building their reputation. It's not something I aspired to, and have never attained, which is fine for me, especially as there was a time that people had assumed I had access, and there was an extra layer of oversight and ultimately criticism that I just don't need in my life. As social media has expanded, so too has the marketing and social media teams of clubs. Instead of fans talking about their team and reflecting the positives and achievements as bloggers, there are now team employees, with direct access to the teams presenting some of the non-news content from teams. They cut out the middle man, and now these employees have ACCESS. It's with that lens of privelege and dedication that we can find out htat so many Vancouver Canucks really like homestands, because the best part of being at home is being at home. I'm glad we get to see this information, the players that will be on the ice for maybe a minute and a half at the start of the game. It lets you know know what jersey to wear. This lineup is something special, though. Cam, Sam, two Travises, Sean and Tyson. I think that is the group that rushed Sigma Nu in 2006Tonight's starting lineup will feature...

How can this be a happy Saturday hen that isn't even Connor Bedard? That's actually Lukas Reichel, the German winger who is -8 with only 1 point in 12 games this year. Thanks for reminding Chicago fans of that. Oh, and way to make me feel incredibly old. He was born in 2002, but is somehow 21 years old. He's also older than three of his teammates. So thanks for the note, Chicago. I feel like shit now.happy Saturday friends 🙂 pic.twitter.com/KUAIQICMhP

Are we just skating by with Tweets of the Moment, particularly when I am not actively on Twitter anymore? Absolutely yes. That said, I wanted to post for posterity, that the Toronto Maple Leafs, at least for one night, didn't fall flat on their face when a golden opportunity presented itself, and the Dallas Stars even admitted it.Slow starts have been an issue for the Stars to begin the season, and last night, Toronto took advantage of it.

DON'T WORRY PEOPLE! Even if you don't want to pay the dollar for the site, you are still going to be able to read updates like this one. Does it happen often that you follow a team's socials, it is the the third week of the season, getting to the third period of the game, and you are just now getting the information on who is broadcasting the game? And for what it's worth, the Bruins have been on NESEN for almost 40 years. Thanks for the Tweet! The third's a go.

Before we go anywhere, I want to make sure we pay tribute to the man who inspired the original iteration of this site. Barry Melrose announced his retirement as the season began, owing to a Parkinson's Disease diagnosis. We wish Barry and those who know and love him well during this tough moment, and thank him for the memories, the inspiration, and all the mullet jokes.
Now, the Tweet, or X or whatever.

Twitter got rid of Tweetdeck in a usable format, which is just one of the many things that has rendered Twitter unusable to someone like me. Really and truly, Twitter's utility now is only because Brands are using it, people still have it set up to push published posts online and lists are still a thing to corral those brands and their posts. If there is an easy way to track the social media commentary from all NHL franchises, please let me know, because right now, Twitter is it. It's the only reason to be on Twitter, and you should absolutely not spend any more time there. I don't even have access to the BarryMelroseRox account anymore, but these posts will show up on Post.news and Mastodon, both @Rhinoandcompass. If Threads ever figures things out (like a chronological timeline, for example) maybe I'll get there too.Was there any doubt? pic.twitter.com/EnIcjKtPrO
